The Mysterious Dinner Napkin (Solved!)

Last Tuesday we posted this fantastic napkin design after checking out the online fashion magazine, The Dinner Jacket which featured a photograph of it on their contents page. Ashley & Justyna from The Dinner Jacket just got back to us with some background info and it turns out you can get a set of your very own over at The Spoon Sisters. Thanks Ashley & Justyna!

Bump & Grind

OK, so I'm not a huge fan of Grind House era B-horror movies but I've seen a fair bit and I can appreciate the art direction of the new Agent Provocateur interactive web movie but to be interactive the users has to be interested enough to at least stick around. After about 10min of cackling and tomato eating I had had enough so I attempted to purposely fail at the interactive game of "saving the virgin" and get the hell out of there only to be asked the choose-your-own-adventure style question a second time. I appreciate the idea and the nod to kitsch horror but the payoff here seems to be an endless reel of tomato fetish.

Brand Wrangling

Advertising Agency: FFL Paris, France

I'm not sure what the brand positioning is for Wrangler in France but it must be radically different than here in the states. Perhaps hoping for the same European demand for Levi's years ago, Wrangler seems to be tunneling a vision more familiar to Diesel. Part of what raised Levi's standing in Europe was it's long tradition not a rebranding for a new consumer. It will be interesting to see what becomes of the effort but this is one campaign I don't think the jeans maker will be bringing across the pond.

Creative Black Tie

Right now, somewhere, a junior creative with a necktie account is going to slap a logo on this thereby making it completely devoid of humor...but for now you can get your logo-free version here.

I Heart Branding

This year marks the 30th anniversary of one of the most recognized branding campaigns in history. The I Love NY campaign first ran in 1977 and featured Frank Sinatra, Morgan Fairchild and Yul Brenner proclaiming their love for the state of New York (not the city) even though some of the celebrities featured in the ads, Sinatra included, were not from New York state at all. ad agency Wells Rich & Green designed the campaign to revitalize the New York economy and that it did as new york tourist continue to hand over wads of cash to clothing stands up and down Broadway. Today, the concept behind the branding effort has been carried over from everything from drugs, fast food, sports and anything else you care to "heart". Happy 30th anniversary consumer slogan.

Headlines in Harajuku

Japanese clothing line Neighborhood releases a controversial new T-shirt through their website depicting newspaper headlines announcing the assassination of George Bush in Chicago last Friday. Freedom of speech or just old news?

Uninsu(red)

Last year's Gap (red) campaign was so forced it was anything but inspi(red). Slap a couple celebrity faces on the issue and remake charity into promotion by having Oprah and Bono walk down a red carpet...and into a gap. Thanks to Reed Space you too can call attention to our own crisis right here at home, health care. Vive la revolution!

Birds of a Feather

This new micro site for Marc Aurel's '07 Fall Line is a good example of how a little can go a long way. Note the lightly blowing hair of the woman on the interface and the unique role over menus. All and all there is nothing really that new or mind blowing here not to mention it's a bit lean on content (it is after all a site for a fashion line) but on the whole, the site does a really nice job of conveying an overall feeling and aesthetically speaking, It's a great looking site. Oh, and the models aren't bad to look at either. www.marc-aurel.com

Two Heads Are Better Than One

Headhoods is a small Brooklyn based Sweat (shirt) shop producing limited edition printed hoodies featuring such famous heads as Elvis, Audry Hepburn and even your own skull. All of their hoodies are hand printed on American Apparel brand sweat shirts and I kinda want one.

Diesel Get's Deep

Last week at the Pitti Immagine Fashion Fair in Florence, Diesel unveiled a groundbreaking marriage of high fashion and technology. The show, entitled 'Liquid Space' took on a life of it's own when Creative director Wilbert Das tagged Dvein, a Spanish CGI animation studio to design an eye catching multimedia show. Motion graphics of models and deep sea creatures created the illusion that the projections were moving in sync with the live models strutting the runway.

Designing Koi Running Tiger

Koi Klub

Zen Yoshimoto's clear 'Made of Japan' sneaker

Koi Klub, the Berlin based, Japanese design collective and event promoter recently teamed up with Onitsuka Tiger to design a new line of sneaker for the iconic brand. Yoske Nishiumi of Koi Klub explains, "Koi were actually our grandpa's generation's popular collectibles; sneakers are my generation's collectibles. Both have in common that they could go extremely expensive by getting premier value."

Friends don't let friends New Rave

Why does New Rave (err, Nu Rave) keep gaining momentum outside of London? Maybe it's the drab overcast London Sky or the puddle strewn, cobblestoned streets of SoHo that were calling out for a color (err, Colour) revolution but I never thought that Nu Rave would have survived this long. Disturbing? Yes. Surprising? No. With all street trends loosely linked to local music scenes and party venues, Nu Rave seems to have grown out of London like the virus from 28 Days Later and consumed scenesters from Williamsburg to Fergie Ferg, striking first the impressionable readers of NME and Nylon before sending a neon tsunami to the U.S. and Asia. All it takes is one generation removed for a complete loss of 80's irony.
