And to Think I Saw it on Sampsonia Street

The Making of Street With a View

When I first learned about Street With A View it reminded me of one of my Dad's favorite books, the Dr. Seuss classic, And to Think that I Saw it on Mulberry Street in which a rather mundane street becomes the scene of an unbelievable impromptu series of events. In this real life Mulberry Street, the street is actually Sampsonia Way in Pittsburgh and the medium is Google Street View.

The Most Entertaining Man is...

Dos Equis has announced that it has tapped legendary underground Ring Master, Jim Rose of the Jim Rose Circus for it's new "Most Entertaining Man" campaign. On the heels of Dos Equis "Most Interesting Man" ads, Jim Rose has signed on to perform a number of exclusive performances in bars and clubs around the country. Can the same man who brought us Mr. Lifto and Enigma (no pictures, this is a family blog) and who was a staple on the live music scene way back when Lalapalooza was still a rock festival, put the rebel back into beer? Lets hope so.

Light-brite Beats

Developer Yu Nishibor

Battles has a go at the Tenori-on

Though it’s been out since the UK launch last Autumn in Manchester, the Yamaha Tenori-on has garnered worldwide interest since making it’s way into live performances from Kraftwerk to Battles to Atom Hart and it’s ease of use has musicians buzzing. Develper and media artist Yu Nishibori explains,

It is mainly a sampler, but it has a preset of its own generated sounds and can be used as a MIDI controller. So when you push a button, you can generate a sound. When you push longer, it enters a meter of rhythm and you can also set that tempo. You can adjust the pitch and frequency on a kind of time line. The bottom line would be the low sounds, the higher lines are the higher frequencies.

Bounce That

Maybe it was because I was out too late last night or the fact that everyone I know is at Pitchfork this weekend or that I missed the Bird Machine open house on Friday because of work but I was feeling a bit down today until I was sent this performance of a group of trampoline gymnasts with at least a rudimentary knowledge of video editing commands. Note the paint rolled loading bar at the bottom of screen...I mean stage. Oh yeah, did I mention that it was done in one take in front of a live audience?

Diesel Get's Deep

Last week at the Pitti Immagine Fashion Fair in Florence, Diesel unveiled a groundbreaking marriage of high fashion and technology. The show, entitled 'Liquid Space' took on a life of it's own when Creative director Wilbert Das tagged Dvein, a Spanish CGI animation studio to design an eye catching multimedia show. Motion graphics of models and deep sea creatures created the illusion that the projections were moving in sync with the live models strutting the runway.

It's that time of the year again! Cut&Paste returns to NYC, Chicago, LA, San Francisco and two new cities this year, Portland and Boston. The entry deadline is July 17th with a whole host of new prizes from Adobe, Wacom Technology, IdN and Wired Magazine. So come out, make lots of noise and drink overpriced drinks...why else would graphic designers go to a night club? We had a hell of a time last year and we're looking forward to this year's event.
